The Mets are signing right-hander Jose Ureña to minor league contract.
Ureña told Tim Healey of Newsday about the deal.
With the Rangers last season, Ureña posted a 3.80 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP in nine starts and 24 relief appearances over 109 innings.
He made 10 starts between the Rockies and White Sox in 2023.
The Mets’ pitching depth has been set back after injuries to starters Sean Manaea (right-oblique strain) and Frankie Montas (high-grade lat strain). Both pitchers will miss Opening Day.
The Mets’ rotation is left with Kodai Senga, Clay Holmes and David Peterson. Options for the back end include Griffin Canning, Tylor Megill and Paul Blackburn.
