Atlético Madrid coach Diego Simeone spoke to the media before Monday night’s fixture against Real Valladolid in La Liga, addressing specific players’ form and the objectives for the remainder of the season.
When asked about the challenges ahead, Simeone was also tested to reflect on a full week to rest and train in preparation for the league fixture.
“It is a week that can be managed in different ways and depending on the moment,” he said. “It is not so simple to train every day. I personally like to play more often, because it also means that the team is in more competitions. We adapt better to the demands of the present and the rest of the season.”
BREAKING: It’s not 100% certain that Nahuel Molina will remain at Atlético Madrid next season. Some clubs are interested in him.
He’s an important player for Simeone, but if a truly high offer of around €35m arrives, the club will consider it.

Simeone on Nahuel Molina
“He is a person, and like everyone, he is better in some moments and not so good in others. He knows he has to improve and we have talked about it several times. When someone gives a lot of good things, then more is demanded of him. Offensively he gives us a lot of options, he has urgency to solve issues we face and also for everything that is defensive. Surely in the near future he will continue to give us everything he has already given us.”
Simeone on Conor Gallagher
“When we thought of him, we thought of a player with youth, with a lot of energy and intensity in his game, both offensively and defensively. He has very good ball-striking skills. It is never easy for guys coming from England to adapt to the Spanish league, to the language…. The truth is that he has competed very well in this period, in different positions on the pitch. He has rarely played in the place where he feels most comfortable, but he has given the team what it needed. He is evolving and has room for growth. He has a very high intensity and he brings a lot to us.”

Simeone on the win over Sevilla
“We had a tough game, and the 1-0 deficit required us to make a huge effort to change the game. We did it. This week we have worked with a lot of enthusiasm and hope, thinking about tomorrow’s match.”
Simeone on set pieces
“This season and also the previous ones, we have not been able to exploit the virtue of the forwards or the guys who have a good aerial game. That’s on us as coaches, for not giving them options, and the players for not solving it in the game.”
Simeone on the objective this season
“We are thinking only about Valladolid, nothing else.”
Simeone on the team’s approach to the final games
“We have, as you know, a lot of enthusiasm, excitement, always hoping to fight until the last moment of the championship. Going game by game, we will raise our hopes and energy so that, starting tomorrow, the team can continue to compete until the end of the season.”
